Firefox 4 & iNotes

Firefox 4 and iNotes

Having tried out firefox 4 on 7, XP and Ubuntu I have to say that I'm impressed. However, I've found that loading up the webmail part of Lotus Notes, iNotes, does not appear possible in the new version.

We run Notes 8.5.2 Fixpack 1: so we are up to date: but when you go into your inbox you get an error message and cannot view your mails.

You can see "A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail" and if you open the console you will find:

03/22/2011 10:33:19PM A problem has occurred which may have caused the current operation to fail.
03/22/2011 10:33:19PM uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE) [nsIDOMHTMLDocument.createElementNS]" nsresult: "0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)" location: "JS frame :: http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifhttp://www.yourinotespages.co.uk/iNoteshttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif/Forms85.nsf/iNotes/Proxy/?OpenDocument&Form=l_StdPageOperations_Gecko&l=en&gz&CR&MX&TS=20101020T153425,75Z&charset=ISO-8859-1&PresetFields=s_FullmailView;1,s_FullListViewVirtual;1,s_mailView;1,s_Base;1,s_FullInit;1,s_Sametime;1 :: CyB :: line 15" data: no]

Which all seems quite a shame.....

A quick update to this post (and thanks for the replies): someone has now found a fix to this issue: see Firefox 4 notes Fix

Just run iNotes in lite or ultralite... Problem only occurs in full mode

It has something to do with a tighter security implemented into the new versions of firefox.
We need to wait for a fix, at least with Version 8.5.3

Here is a note about this from IBM

Cause

These errors are related to the removal of remote XUL support from Firefox 4. According to Mozilla Bug Report #546857, remote XUL originating from Web pages is no longer supported. This change impacts Lotus iNotes 8.5.2.2 and earlier releases because iNotes uses remote XUL in several places to create an improved Firefox visual experience and to enhance feature capability.

Resolving the problem

This issue is addressed by Interim Fix 401.8HF6 for iNotes 8.5.2 Fix Pack 2, which introduces support for Firefox 4. This interim fix is available for download from Fix Central. See the following technote for more details:

well how do you fix it so that you can open the webmail. My tablet is the only thing in my house that opens my schools webmail and it is quite irritating
